The seventh week of the ISI-Dublin English language Summer Camp.

Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, Ireland

The final week of the Summer Camp may have represented the end of an amazing Summer for our students, teachers, and activity leaders but it still had all the fun of every other week. There was a relaxed atmosphere because of the smaller group of students. This also allowed every activity to feel very intimate and personal.

We commenced the week with some competition through the scavenger hunt around Grand Canal Quay. The students were challenged to find local monuments, such as the red sticks and the old Boland Flower Mills as well as the headquarters of multinational companies such as Meta and Google. On Tuesday the students traveled to Howth to walk and see the stunning vistas of the Irish Sea one can view from the cliffs. The students could also see seals frolicking in the water as it was an exceptionally clear and sunny day. The students were also allowed to enjoy some free time in the village and explore further themselves.

On Wednesday the students visited Belvedere College one final time to enjoy the facilities the gym and the pool have to offer. The students enjoyed playing basketball, volleyball, and other games created by the activity leaders one last time together. In the evening the students switched from using their physical prowess to their mental agility during our quiz night at MHL. It was wonderful to see how our remaining student’s English had improved through the quickness and correctness of their answers.

On Thursday we took the students bowling at the Leisureplex in Charlestown, which remains a favorite activity due to its competitive but fun nature. On Friday we emerged the students in arts and culture at the national gallery. In the evening we brought them to our games night at MHL. Students had the choice of singing karaoke, playing board games, and playing musical chairs. As many of the students were leaving the next morning it was a rather emotional night, with many goodbyes said and many Irish flags signed.

On Saturday, the last of our students traveled to Bray in Co. Wicklow to brave Bray’s head and reach the cross. The final hike we took them on symbolizes the journey the students have been on during the Summer Programme. They start at the “bottom”, feeling slightly trepidatious about being in a new country, but they rise to the “top” by improving their English and using their newfound skills to make friends for life and enjoy all the experiences ISI has to offer them. It has been a great experience for me, as an activity leader to get to engage with the student and provide such a unique opportunity for them.

See you guys next year, folks!😉
